Home Security Tips
Keep your home your safe space.
Our home is our castle. Our most precious and irreplaceable valuables live there. There is no price we can place on the protection of our families. And we certainly don’t want to wait for our sense of security to be stolen from us before we take action.
One of my early security roles was as an Alarm Response Officer working in-house for the leader in home alarm systems. Unfortunately, I saw many families dealing with that sense of violation that comes after a break-and-enter. Later, I worked in sales and helped families set up systems for protection. I think it’s only right that one of my first blog entries be dedicated to home security.
So, here are 12 home security tips you can use.
Talk to your neighbours - neighbourhood watch was a great idea
Establish your perimeter - caution privacy fencing
Maximize visibility - shrubs and lighting
Have a screen door and lock it.
Buy a medium to large-sized dog - beware of dog sign, if you don’t have a dog you must have an alarm system.
Protect your basement windows - larger than a human, common entry along with back door. Front door only used when window right beside lock.
Do not ignore door knocks when you are home
Do not leave any ladders of opportunites - if you have upper level balconies or accessible windows you they need protection.
Fortify your doors - NRP hinges, long screws on strike plate, / protect your back doors avoid glass, secure sliding doors
Get a safety deposit box - Go to your local bank or credit union
Have a plan - weapon (bat, bear spray, knife), alarm
Consider a surveillance system - not much of a deterrence tool, but can be helpful for investigation. Have one that records 24/7.

It all begins with an idea.
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
